This is a full time position based out of Herndon, VA
Job Title: Director, Software Development
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary:
Play/coach role undertaking both management of team but also hands on development
Lead team to ensure consistent timely delivery of software products with quality and architectural integrity.
Build, lead, and manage a development team efficiently to maximize resources and meet aggressive release schedules.
Develop, enhance and implement a scalable and reliable architecture for our services.
Collaborate with product management, QA and Operations in each iteration to optimize user experience and service quality.
Take the ownership for resolving escalated complex operational/production issues.
Understand and promote customer use cases in the context of the product strategy.
Must-have skills and experience:
7 + years of combined experience in large scale software development with at least 3 years in managing a fast-paced and dynamic engineering team that develops high availability online services and/or SaaS products.
Proven record in proactive planning but able to manage reactive response when required.
Strong project management skills with a proven track record of product delivery.
Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
Strong problem solving skills with commercial focus.
Strong recruiting skills and experience.
Able to fit in well within an informal environment and provide hands-on management.
Able to establish credibility with smart engineers quickly.
Strong interpersonal skill and oral and written communication skills.
BSEE, BSCS, or related degree is required.
Knowledge areas:
Well-versed with recent online technology innovation, with a clear vision for future trends and their impact on our business.
A strong believer in open source software, software reuse and its applicability to commercial product development.
Understanding of modern agile development methodologies and test-driven, iterative development practices
Knowledge of Java, Spring framework, Hibernate, web services and JEE frameworks in general.
Emphasis on:
Background in Java technologies.
This is a hand’s on role requiring programming as well as management experience.
Worked for software companies that have a reputation and track record of building products.
Steady growth and responsibilities.
No telecommuting, work in Herndon office each day.
