The Controller will execute the company’s core accounting and reporting duties effectively and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations. This will include bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax reporting, regulatory reporting and related activities for over a dozen fund and acquisition entities utilized by the firm.
The Controller will also establish and maintain the company’s financial policies and procedures in the areas of fund accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, treasury, tax, payroll, and insurance. The Controller will ensure the financial infrastructure is established to support and position the company for rapid growth in all dimensions. The Controller will share accountability with the senior leadership team for achieving organizational goals and profitability.
The Controller will also manage personnel files and employee benefits.
The Controller is the only financial and accounting position at the firm and will interface with all levels of investment professionals, executive management, investors, regulatory and advisory organizations, and other third parties who are involved in the company’s financial functions.
1. Handles all fund accounting and directs the timely and accurate preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to shareholders/investors, reports to lenders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
2. Handles all management company and investment vehicle bookkeeping, accounting, tax reporting, planning and related activities. Assures accuracy timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices.
3. Oversees budget preparation and audit functions. Recommends and manages the implementation of changes and improvements in financial and management information systems for the company.
4. Monitors cash position and maximizes cash flow by effectively controlling working capital. Establishes and maintains internal control procedures relative to the safeguarding of assets.
5. Oversees interpretation of Fund Agreements in order to determine impact on financial reporting and partner capital accounting requirements.
6. Maintains other relations related to finance practices including banks, payroll, vendors, investors, and others as necessary.
7. Manage personnel files and employee benefits including payroll, 401K, health insurance, background checks, and others as necessary.
The Controller will have at least five years of experience in the financial and accounting aspects of running a business. The Executive will have had a deep background in Private Equity and Fund Accounting.
Driven and motivated – The Controller should have a high energy level, be persistent and have a high level of interest in staying up to date on and executing budgeting, financial reports, bookkeeping, management skills, and government policies.
Disciplined, focused and organized –
parties on multiple topics in an organized fashion and should have a fundamental and high degree of attention to detail. The ability to manage all financial aspects of the company in a timely manner, follow-up rigorously, coordinate with various parties, and adhere to internal and external deadlines. Strong personal values and integrity are crucial to this role.
Strong background in accounting and finance – The Controller has to have a strong understanding of accounting and finance concepts specific to running a private equity firm. They should be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Fund Accountant, and have history working with Quickbooks, Excel, filing taxes, and adhering to the changing SEC and governmental policies.
Strong ability to communicate – The Controller must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of audiences. A respectful and highly professional approach is of the utmost importance.
High efficiency and speed – The Controller will need to have a strong technical and analytical background in order to operate quickly, and have the desire and ability to identify areas to improve efficiency and best practices. The Controller should also have a strong desire to learn more and should be taking initiative consistently to do so.
