Plant Operations Manager Jobs

SUMMARY:
To manage, control and plan the JIT (Just-In-Time) manufacturing activities of the production floor in order to exceed customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (not all inclusive)
•Launch and maintain work cells to meet and exceed customer requirements
•Improve housekeeping and plant organization including plant layout
•Monitor and address safety & environmental concerns on the shop floor
•Monitor quality issues toward our goal of zero defects
•Control overtime in line with the Business Plan
•Improve efficiency by reducing set-up times
•Assist operators in troubleshooting process, and material problems
•Reduce scrap; monitor key indicators for positive trends
•Create and implement Continuous Improvement suggestions
•Monitor activities as assigned in accordance with 5S
•Monitor Manning requirements and reduce overhead as needed
•Understand and maintain state, federal or local operating permits as required
•Provide a safe and healthful work environment that is free of recognized hazards for all employees, contractors and visitors
•Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformance relating to product, process & systems
•Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process or system
•Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through appropriate channels and verify implementation
•Control further processing and delivery of nonconforming product until the deficiency is corrected
•Approve Business Operating System documentation as applicable (Process Owner)
•Purchase Requisition approval for Department purchases
•Advise associates, contractors and visitors of any actual or potential danger to their safety or health, and ensure the necessary training and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided
•Cooperate with all local, state and federal agencies, such as OSHA or the EPA, in the event of an inspection
•Participate in audits and inspections to eliminate area safety, environmental hazards and non-conformances
•Ensure employees in their area know, follow and enforce all applicable HSE Policies and Procedures
•Help manage Company Performance Measurable, safety and survey scores
•Develop strategic goals for the department and develop plans to achieve them
•Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
•High School diploma, technical and leadership training preferred but not required
•Bachelor degree in an engineering or management discipline or equivalent combination of work and education
•Experience in Process operation, assembly, blueprint/tool & die print reading, computer applications, electrical and mechanical maintenance helpful but not required
•Supervision, manufacturing experience, and/or management. Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive manufacturing experience of 5-10 years is strongly preferred
•Individual must have ability to manage manufacturing processes through effective planning and delegation
•Individual must be an excellent communicator with an excellent organizational ability
•Must have thorough understanding of manufacturing operations, machine set-up and changeovers, safety, and quality issues
•Must possess proficient interpersonal skills and present a positive attitude and ability to motivate employees
•Ability to interpret production schedules, reports, and data stored on PCs (Personal Computers), and mainframe computer system
•Possess excellent leadership abilities, organizational and communication skills
•Proficient computer skills. (i.e. Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT:
•Must be able to speak, read, and write English
•Extended standing, sitting, with some bending and reaching as well as the ability to move between facilities; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. preferred
•Ability to visually monitor production processes and product quality as well as safety; ability to inspect products using fixtures and precise measuring equipment
•Ability to travel for extended periods of time including international travel

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED:
Personal Computers, telephone, facsimile, copier, office equipment; verniers, micrometers, production equipment etc.

OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION:
Because the Business Unit Manager has direct reports on all shifts, extended daily and weekend work hours are required.
